Steven R. Boyett‘s novels include the fantasy classic Ariel, The Architect of Sleep, Elegy Beach, and Mortality Bridge. He has been a professional martial arts instructor, paper marbler, advertising copywriter, proofreader, writing teacher, website designer & editor, chapbook publisher, and DJ who has played in major cities and Burning Man. He lives in the San Francisco Bay area. His latest book, Fata Morgana, was written with Ken Mitchroney.

Ken Mitchroney’s film and television credits include director, head of story, director of photography, and storyboard artist on Storks, The Lego Movie, The Ant Bully, Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc., The Annoying Orange Show, Mighty Magiswords, and more. His comic illustration includes Ren & Stimpy, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Myth Conceptions, and creating the influential Space Ark. He is an official artist for the Ed “Big Daddy” Roth estate, and official illustrator for the Oakland Athletics and at one time the Baltimore Orioles. Mitchroney has been a professional race-car driver and pinstriper, and restores and runs vintage locomotives. He is currently involved with the restoration of the Ward Kimball collection at the Southern California Railway Museum in Perris, California. He lives and works in the San Francisco Bay area and Los Angeles.

Ellen Klages is the author of two acclaimed historical novels: The Green Glass Sea, which won the Scott O’Dell Award, and the New Mexico Book Award; and White Sands, Red Menace, which won the California and New Mexico Book awards. Her story, “Basement Magic,” won a Nebula Award and “Wakulla Springs,” co-authored with Andy Duncan, was nominated for the Nebula, Hugo, and Locus awards, and won the World Fantasy Award for Best Novella. She is a graduate of Second City’s Improv program, and has a degree in Philosophy from the University of Michigan, leading to many odd jobs that began with the letter P (proofreader, photographer, painter, pinball arcade manager). Her novella, “Passing Strange” came out in January, 2017 from tor.com and a new collection of short fiction, Wicked Wonders, has just been published by Tachyon. Ellen lives in San Francisco, in a small house full of strange and wondrous things.

Her brand-new new collection, Wicked Wonders, also from Tachyon, will be available for sale at this event.

In addition to her writing, she serves on the Motherboard of the James Tiptree, Jr. Award, and was somewhat notorious as the past auctioneer/entertainment for the Tiptree auctions at Wiscon. When she’s not writing fiction, she sells old toys and magazines on eBay, and collects lead civilians.

David D. Levine: Levine’s debut novel, a Regency interplanetary airship adventure novel titled Arabella of Mars, will be available at this event. His “Tk’Tk’Tk” won the 2006 Hugo Award for Best Short Story, his story “Nucleon” won the James White Award, and he has been shortlisted for awards including the Hugo, Nebula, Campbell, Sturgeon, and Locus. His stories have appeared in Asimov’s, Analog, F&SF, Realms of Fantasy, Tor.com, numerous anthologies and websites, and multiple Year’s Best anthologies, as well as his collection Space Magic from Wheatland Press, which won the Endeavour Award for the best SF or Fantasy book by a Pacific Northwest writer. A contributor to George R. R. Martin’s bestselling shared-world series Wild Cards, Levine is also a member of Book View Cafe, a writer-owned publishing cooperative, and Oregon Science Fiction Conventions Inc., a nonprofit organization which produces OryCon. He has narrated podcasts for Escape Pod, PodCastle, and StarShipSofa and the audiobook of Space Magic, and his video production “Dr. Talon’s Letter to the Editor” was a finalist for the Parsec Award. In 2010 he spent two weeks at the Mars Desert Research Station, a simulated Mars base in the Utah desert.

Robyn Bennis: Bennis is a scientist living in Mountain View, California, where she works in biotech but dreams of airships. She has done research and development involving human gene expression, neural connectomics, cancer diagnostics, rapid flu testing, gene synthesis, genome sequencing, being so preoccupied with whether she could that she never stopped to think if she should, and systems integration. Her apartment is within sight of Hangar One at Moffett Airfield, which was once the West Coast home to one of America’s largest airships, the USS Macon. Her debut novel, The Guns Above, will be available at this event.

**Extra! Extra!** San Francisco’s fabulous Jewelle Gomez will be joining our author lineup!

Join us on Saturday, April 23, for a lively evening of reading and discussion with Pat Murphy, Jewelle Gomez and ABM’s own Madeleine Robins, moderated by Bay Area author, editor, and raconteur Terry Bisson.

Pat Murphy writes fiction that has “a hint of the strange,” from the Nebula Award-winning The Falling Woman to the World Fantasy Award winner Bones. Her novelette “Rachel in Love” won the Nebula Award, the Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award, the Locus Award, and the Asimov Readers Award. When not writing fiction she has written about science for the Exploratorium and Klutz Press, as well as a column with physicist Paul Doherty for The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction. She is currently the Activity Guru/Evil Genius of Mystery Science, creating science curricula and activities for elementary school students. She is a co-founder of the James Tiptree Memorial Award.

Madeleine Robins has been, in no particular order, a nanny, a teacher, an actor and stage-combatant, an administrator, a comic book editor, a baker, typist-clerk for Thos. Cook’s Houses of Parliament office, a repairer-of-hurt-books, an editorial consultant, and a writer. Her work includes the New York Times notable book The Stone War, Sold for Endless Rue, and three books in her swashbuckling alt-Regency-noir detective series: Point of Honour, Petty Treason, and The Sleeping Partner. She is a founding member of the online publishing collective Book View Cafe, the Operations Manager of the American Bookbinders Museum, and is working on another book.

Jewelle Gomez is a Bay Area treasure — author, poet, critic and playwright. She lived in New York City for 22 years, working in public television and theatre. Her writing encompasses fiction, poetry, essays and cultural criticism, and is included in more than a hundred anthologies, including the first anthology of Black speculative fiction, Dark Matter: A Century of Speculative Fiction from the African Diaspora, edited by Sheree R. Thomas. Gomez was on the founding board of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) in 1984. Gomez is the author of seven books, including the Lambda Literary Award-winning novel, The Gilda Stories. In print since 1991, and now available in a brand-new 25th anniversary edition, it reframes the traditional vampire mythology within a lesbian/feminist perspective, telling the tale of an escaped slave who comes of age over two hundred years. According to scholar Elyce Rae Helford, “Each stage of Gilda’s personal voyage is also a study of life as part of multiple communities, all at the margins of mainstream white middle-class America.”

PETER S. BEAGLE is the best-selling author of the beloved classic, The Last Unicorn. Published in 1968, when the author was 29, it was made into a Rankin/Bass animated film in 1982. His other novels include A Fine & Private Place, The Innkeeper’s Song, and Tamsin. His short fiction has been collected in four volumes by Tachyon Publications, including The Rhinoceros Who Quoted Nietzsche, The Line Between, We Never Talk About My Brother, and Sleight of Hand. He has won the Hugo, Nebula, Mythopoeic, and Grand Prix de l’Imaginaire awards and the World Fantasy Award for Lifetime Achievement. His recent books are Summerlong, and In Calabria, both out from Tachyon Publications. Peter’s newest collection, The Overneath, as well as the anthology he is editing, The New Voices of Fantasy, are due out this fall,

EFFIE SEIBERG is an up-and-coming young science fiction and fantasy writer, based in San Francisco with the requisite San-Francisco-based tech job. With a slew of promising short fiction to her credit, at any one time she is either working on 1) baking a spaceship-shaped cake, 2) a YA novel 3) walking her dog YoYo, and/or making everything in the tech sector just a little bit better.
