This event is being held within the APEC security zone, during APEC, right?

It’s actually just outside it. We went through every permutation we could think of, and in speaking with both the City and the ABM many times it was made clear to us that 1) don’t drive downtown if you can possibly help it 2) 5th Street remains open to traffic (albeit it will be very slow-going) 3) the ABM isn’t part of the security zone, with bag checks or a “chute” directing people around the streets (although that does begin on the 14th for the 3rd Street area). These, and the fact that both garages are closed led me to urge attendees to take public transportation – which couldn’t be easier. BART Powell Street station is only 2 blocks away, a straight shot down 5th to Clementina. MUNI is running buses that are taking into account the street closures, and you can plan your trip at 511.org, after reviewing this site: https://www.sfmta.com/blog/apec-coming-sf-what-you-need-know-get-around

I hope that all helps – we’re still going ahead, with 2 authors who flew into SF to participate – Lily Yu is in the Northwest, and Rick Wilber is coming from Florida – so we can’t cancel, and really want to still have a great event despite the SF City Gov best efforts to screw around with all of us!

Let me know directly at sfinsfevents@gmail.com if you have any further questions, and thanks! Rina Weisman
